Justice Muhammad Sair Ali (Retd), the newly-appointed Election Commissioner and acting Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wednesday took charge of the office. "I will try my best to accomplish the task of election within days... I'm here for a specific time period and will return after it. I assure you that will not overstep my powers," Sair Ali told reporters after assuming charge of his office here today.
He said election schedule would be announced once the Board of Governors named a chairman, adding that names of the governing board members were yet to be finalised. To a query, he said PCB chairman will be elected for three-year tenure. He said the election schedule of the PCB will be announced after the names of members of board of governors come to the fore. He said that only a member of the PCB Governing Body is eligible to contest election for the post of the Chairman.
To a query, he said according to new constitution of the board, approved on July 10, the Governing Body will have ten members. He said the PCB elections would be held according to the new constitution. He said all the issues related to PCB will be resolved soon. Ali has already written to all the concerned departments and regions to name the remaining eight members so that a 10-member governing board is formed. Former chairmen Najam Sethi and Shaharyar Khan were appointed by PM on the governing board from which the new chairman will be elected.
