12 Aug, 2014

Managing Director, PIA has ordered investigation against a pilot on account of insisting that on flight operation department acts against the PIA policy, using abusive language and threatening lower staff. A reliable source said the staff of flight operations department from head office contacted pilot Captain Shahzad Aziz for plan brief for flight PK 796 Barcelona-Islamabad having Lahore as alternate airport but the Captain insisted to provide fuel upto Karachi.
However, he was informed that it is against the schedule plan and not appropriate as cargo of the flight would be off-loaded which was against the PIA policy. On the briefing and the refusal of staff to go against the PIA policy for the fuel arrangement the Captain misbehaved, called them names and used insulting and abusive language. Meanwhile, the staff reported the issue to Managing Director PIA who has ordered enquiry against the pilot. The order is likely to be issued today.
It may be mentioned that Captain Shahzad Aziz is the brother of a senior pilot who is also a former Director of CAA. Source said that stress, hatred and mistrust prevail among different departments of the airline while Palpa and engineering department are also at loggerheads having already issued notices to each other. Source said PIA management had been reluctant to take action against pilots but now the Managing Director had taken a bold step to initiate the enquiry against the pilot who had very strong connection in the airline.
