15 Aug, 2014

President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the country cannot afford any type of meaningless political adventurism at this critical juncture when it is fighting war against terrorism for its survival and stability. The President expressed these views while addressing a traditional flag hoisting ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday. The President called upon the political leadership to play a serious and responsible role to avert any chaos and anarchy.
He said that this day reminds us of the relentless struggle waged by our forefathers to get a separate homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent. This day also reminds us of our responsibility for the defence and security of the country, he said. The President said, "Today we are celebrating Independence Day in a particular atmosphere when the personnel of armed forces are rendering sacrifices to get rid of terrorism."
He said that through an organised conspiracy, terrorism was promoted in all parts of the country, which caused colossal human and economic loss to the country. The President said that the government is trying its level best to eliminate terrorism and the entire nation should stand united behind the armed forces so that this menace could not resurface again.
He said that the nation should also not forget the sufferings of the displaced families of North Waziristan who had to leave their homes for the sake of the country. He said efforts should be made so that these people could return to their homes without any delay. He said, "We should reaffirm our resolve to make Pakistan a progressive country, free from terrorism and extremism." While referring to the economic challenges faced by the country, the President said that the government has started work on Pakistan-China economic Corridor project and it has also ensured the completion of the project in time. The President said that several mega projects have also been initiated in the energy sector, which will start generating electricity in the next three years.
The President said the entire Muslim Ummah and other civilised nations should join hands to get atrocities stopped in Palestine and Kashmir. He said these outstanding issues should be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of the people. Pakistan does not believe in aggression but at the same time it will not accept hegemony of any other country, he added. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chiefs of the armed forces, the Speaker National Assembly, the Chairman Senate, federal ministers, Parliamentarians and foreign diplomats were also present on the occasion.
