SU celebrates Independence Day with national fervour

A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Sindh University (SU) Allama I.I Kazi Campus on Thursday morning to commemorate the country's Independence Day. The vice-chancellor of Sindh University, Professor Dr Abida Taherani, the registrar, Ghulam Muhammad Bhutto, the deans of all faculties, administrative officers, employees and a large number of students attended the ceremony.
The day dawned with special prayers in the Jamia Masjid of the varsity for the progress, prosperity and security of the country. The students of Syed Panah Ali Shah Model School Sindh University Colony sang national songs and presented the tableaus that forced the participants to encourage the performers with the roar of clapping. The tug of war competitions were also organised in a bid to enhance the happiness's of jubilant on the campus.
Addressing the gathering after the hoisting of the national flag followed by national anthem, the vice-chancellor stated that freedom was a great blessing which had been achieved with the sacrifices of the elders. She said that the value of independence could be gauged from the miserable plight of Muslims living in India, Kashmir and Palestine.
The vice-chancellor said it was incumbent upon every Pakistani citizen to carry out his or her individual and collective responsibilities justly and honestly in his or her respective field so as to steer the country out of all the crises and gear up its development and progress.
She expressed hope that the Pakistani nation, with its countless abilities, would rise to the occasion and touch the sky working hard. The vice chancellor Dr Abida Taherani appreciated the philanthropic spirit of the SU employees who have voluntarily decided to donate one day's salary for the operation victims of North Wazirstan and recognised the services of Pakistan armed forces who have been fighting against the terrorists to curb terrorism.
She paid glowing tributes to the martyrs, workers and leaders of the Pakistan movement whose sacrifices paved the way for our independence. Dr Taherani exhorted the youth to spread the message of father of the Nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal to make the country truly Islamic welfare state. She enumerated sacrifices of millions of Muslims of Indo-Pakistan for achieving the motherland which is unique example in the world.
