Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secretary general Jahangir Tareen Friday alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member provincial Pomi Butt was the central character in an attack on Azadi March's convoy in Gujranwala. Speaking at a press conference along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pervez Khattak, he condemned the attack on PTI convoy, terming it a cowardly attempt aimed at terrorising the rally participants.
According to him, in case of any untoward incident like a mob attack on the rally is led by party's leadership, the government will be directly held responsible. He said the party will register an FIR against Pomi Butt, adding the government should take strict action against 'Gullu Butt'-type people who are out to destabilise the whole process, creating a law and order situation.
Tareen said the PTI workers will remain peaceful as the party has a track record of holding peaceful rallies in different cities of the country. "This is not acceptable then you [govt] will give free hand to Gullu Butt-type and want to resolve things through peaceful means," he added.
About the exact number of people taking part in the march, Tareen showed optimism that it will exceed the expected one million figure as people from all over the country have started pouring into the capital to participate in the march. To a question about government's claim that the number of people will be only a few thousands, he said that they have nothing else to say as the 'PTI tsunami' has deprived them of sleep. He demanded immediate removal of all barriers from roads and pathways of Islamabad. The PTI leader said that the government has been unnerved by protest march.
