Chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Sirajul Haq and leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, PPP's Syed Khursheed Shah, have said that they would not allow derailment of democracy and hoped that all the political parties would agree on a consensus agenda.
Talking to media after Sirajul Haq met Syed Khursheed Shah here on Sunday, JI chief said that martial law should not be imposed under any circumstances as it had also harmed the country in the past. He said it is time to show responsibility and asked the federal government to show magnanimity as people could make demands from the government.
Urging the political leadership and workers to find out a solution to the present crisis, he said that every one should think about the country and democracy, instead of advancing personal interests.
Haq assured the nation that they would not allow the country to return to darkness, saying he was seeing light ahead.
At the outset, he thanked Khursheed Shah for his guidance.
Khursheed Shah said there would be no compromise on democracy and urged the political parties to find a solution to the crisis. He said people should not be disappointed with the Constitution, Parliament and democracy. He said if Parliament continued to work, problems would be resolved. He said the National Assembly would meet on Monday and the issue would be discussed there to find a way out.
