20 Aug, 2014

A meeting of the parliamentary party of PPP in the Senate was held in the senate secretariat on Tuesday a few hours ahead of the senate meeting later this evening. The meeting presided over jointly by Opposition leader in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan and Parliamentary party leader Mian Raza Rabbani was attended by the PPP senators from all provinces present in the federal capital for the current session.
Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said the meeting took stock of the current political situation particularly the situation arising out of the threats hurled by the leaders of the 'Azaadi' and 'Inqilab' marches in the federal capital to mob the Red Zone later on Tuesday.
The participants vowed to play their role in accordance with the guidelines of the Party to defend and protect democracy in the country. It is a historic moment for the Party as well as all democratic forces in the country to rise to the challenge to defend democracy and democratic institutions.
The Senate parliamentary party of PPP unanimously urged its leaders Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Mian Raza Rabbani to take lead and along with the opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah defuse the explosive situation in line with the Party's policy and decisions taken in this regard. The Spokesperson recalled that Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has already declared the resignations by PTI as a bad omen for democracy. Zardari has also said that consultations be held with the opposition as well as the government with a view to amicably resolving the current stand off in a manner so that the democratic process is not derailed.-PR
