Embezzlement of Rs 290 million: NAB arrests two PWD officials

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wednesday arrested Asmatullah SDO and Mohammad Nisar Sub-Engineer PWD Batkhela, Swat, who in connivance with others succeeded to embezzled Rs 290.04 million in public funds in developmental projects particularly water supply schemes in Union Councils Shalpeen and Biha, in Tehsil Matta and Tehsil Khawazakhela of Upper Swat.
PWD Batkhela Office as a Project Civil Division was established in 2009 and till date has executed developmental works / water supply schemes worth billions of rupees in Malakand Division that consist of construction of PCC Roads, Bridges, Water Supply Schemes, Katcha Road etc.
The Officers of Pak PWD Batkhela Office committed grave financial irregularities and embezzlement in the public funds released for the above mentioned developmental works. Consequently, a complaint has been lodged in NAB (KP) against the accused persons involved. The Competent Authority in NAB taking cognisance of the matter authorised inquiry / investigations into the matter.
During physical check of sites in NA-30 gross irregularities were detected in entries of these Measurements Books and also the filed inspection revealed ghosts, substandard and incomplete schemes for which complete payments had been made to the contractors with the connivance of Pak PWD Officers. They will be produced before the Accountability Court, Peshawar for obtaining their physical remand. More arrested are expected in the case.
