A joint meeting of police and Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) reviewed the progress on tasks assigned by the IGP Sindh to eliminate crime with the special emphasis on terrorism, kidnapping for ransom and extortion. The meeting chaired by IGP Ghulam Haider Jamali was briefed that police had launched massive targeted operations in the province, during which over 600 raids were conducted, 123 hardened criminals including terrorists, kidnappers and extortionists were killed in 223 encounters during raids, conducted from July 16 till date.
The chair was informed that due to the proactive policing, the incidents of kidnapping for ransom have witnessed a sharp decline up to 75 percent. It was also stated that the incidents of extortion have been brought down by over 80 percent during the period under review.
