Bayer Leverkusen's Karim Bellarabi entered the Bundesliga record books on Saturday when scoring the fastest ever German league goal after a mere nine seconds. The midfielder's lightning strike against Borussia Dortmund was two seconds quicker than the previous record held by Bayern Munich's Giovanni Elber. The Brazilian produced his magic in the 11th second against Hamburg on January 31, 1998. Leverkusen kicked off Saturday's game against the winners of the German SuperCup.
After only three passes Bellarabi, 24, received the ball on the edge of the box, skirted round defender Matthias Ginter to shoot into the Dortmund net. The stadium went silent and Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp was seen on German television reacting with a disbelieving smile.
