Former Information Minister and PPP stalwart Qamar Zaman Kaira Saturday urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to trust parliamentary parties and involved them in resolution of stand-off at the Red Zone. He said the government should avoid mistakes and involve political allies to resolve the dispute.
According to Kaira, both Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri require separate treatment because of their separate demands. He said the situation could only be resolved by reposing trust in the parliamentary parties. The Prime Minister should empower people around him to look out for solution, he added.
The PPP leaders, especially from Punjab, have been criticising the government for a solo flight. Even the Prime Minister had not extended audience to the committee formed under Rehman Malik by PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari. PPP Punjab stalwart Shaukat Basra had also criticised the government for not taking the political allies into confidence. Kaira said the Prime Minister could only resign if substantial proof of rigging is in place.
Meanwhile, Kaira also demanded a debate on controversy regarding involvement of Army into politics by the government. He said the Prime Minister has stated on the floor of the House that both Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri had requested the Army to intervene and he allowed accordingly. However, the DG ISPR stated that the Prime Minister had asked the CoAS to play facilitative role. He said the moral consequences of such a situation could be dangerous in case the issue is taken up by the parliament during upcoming days. According to him, the situation could be different if the Prime Minister joined hands with PPP in this critical situation.
