Vice chancellor urges scholars to rise to the media growth challenge

Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor Ziauddin University has urged the need for media scholars to support the tremendous growth in electronic and print journalism in the country. He said this while welcoming the fresh batch of students being inducted for four-year BS programme in Media Sciences to the Institute of Communication and Media Studies (ICMS), Ziauddin University in a simple ceremony which was attended by newly admitted students, their parents, faculty members and notable academicians at Clifton Campus Auditorium.
Dr Pirzada Qasim said this is an age of information where media is playing pivotal role in circulating and competing to provide latest developments to the people around the world. To support the media positively trained and knowledgeable cadre is needed for the spread of knowledge based information for social, political and economic development of the country.
He informed the newly inducted students that at the ICMS, Ziauddin University they will have opportunity of learning Media Sciences theory as well as its practical applications especially of the electronic media through practical training for both television and radio and regular discourse with celebrated professional in the field and highly experienced faculty teachers.
He advised the students that media profession is a passion when positively pursued makes the professional a distinguished personality within the community and society. Guest speaker on the occasion Todd Shea - a musician and Founder of Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS) said that it was encouraging to note that ICMS would be training youth in Media Sciences which will inculcate a new era of positive journalism in the country.
Founding Director, ICMS, Faizan Syed said that the institute is committed to developing professional cadres in electronic and print journalism which would serve as the backbone of the media houses. He said that ICMS is the only media learning centre which besides lectures also provides in-house practical training to the students through the (HTV) television channel and FM 98.2 radio to familiar them with the practical application of Media Sciences.-PR
