Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has taken exception to a statement of Punjab's former Law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan about moving a reference against Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court. In a statement issued here on Thursday, Secretary SCBA Asif Mahmood Cheema warned federal and provincial governments that if any move was initiated to malign the judge, the legal fraternity would stand with Justice Najafi.
He said the government should dispel the impression prevailing in the legal fraternity that present rulers used judiciary as a tool and if any judge did not succumb to their pressure, he (judge) was blackmailed. Cheema said that bar was committed for the struggle of independent judiciary and rule of law.
