Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) senior leader Ch Parvez Elahi on Thursday visited the flood-hit areas of Qadirabad and Mandi Bahauddin and distributed ration and tents among the flood-affected people of 14 villages. Speaking on the occasion, Elahi said that nobody was making efforts to mitigate the sufferings of the flood-affected people who wanted relief and not just visit by the rulers.
He said that the government had yet to announce exemption of the affected people from agricultural loans and taxes despite the devastation of a large number of villages and crops over thousands of acres and killing of large number of livestock. "The rulers witness their destruction from helicopters," he said adding that the problems of the people would be solved only when these senseless and dramatist rulers would go.
During his visit to the flood-hit areas, Elahi was accompanied by Riaz Asghar Chaudhry, Sajid Bhatti, Arif Gondal, Mujahid Bhatti, Zulqarnain, Qaiser Bhatti and other leaders. The flood-hit people were visibly moved and happy on seeing Elahi among them. They expressed gratitude to him and chanted slogans of 'long live Ch Shujaat Hussain, Ch Parvez Elahi and Moonis Elahi'.
Elahi said that "we had got constructed Qadirabad embankment at a cost of Rs 400 million in district Mandi Bahauddin but Shahbaz Sharif has not spent even a single rupee on it in seven years as a result of which Qadirabad and surrounding areas have been greatly affected". He said the Chief Meteorologist had informed the Punjab government in advance that there was threat of great devastation by floods but they made no preparations in this regard; now they were visiting the affected areas for photo sessions.
