Sit-ins and security of foreign missions

13 Sep, 2014

It is heartening to note that country's Foreign Office has effectively dispelled a negative impression with regard to safety and security of foreign missions based in Islamabad.
Responding to a question during a weekly briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that Pakistan has said that "ensuring the safety and protection of the diplomatic corps is our responsibility and we take it very seriously". She has also pointed out that no protest has taken place in or around the diplomatic enclave, which hosts the diplomatic missions.
That the FO has taken a highly plausible stance in relation to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek's sit-ins in the capital's Red Zone is a fact that has found its best expression in her statement in answer to a question. According to her, the ongoing sit-in protest is Pakistan's internal matter and none of the countries has expressed any concern over the protest demonstrations. It shows that the FO has shown a measure of freedom from any unwarranted government control or influence.
