The longer one uses an iPad or iPhone, the more data junk will gather up in the machines. A lot of this then falls into the "other" category, highlighted in yellow, of an iTunes directory. The problem is, since users tend not to have access to the data system, there's no simple way to get rid of this data junk. But there is a workaround.
First, create an encrypted backup of the entire device. Then activate the Restore function, which wipes an iOS device's drive and replaces it with the data from a backup.
The junk data will not be in the backup. Nor will it be in the deleted data. This method can save up to 1 gigabyte (GB) of space on a 32-gigabyte device.
