MoU signed to set up agriculture expo centre at UAP

The University of Agriculture Peshawar (UAP) signed a memorandum of understanding with Department of Agriculture, and Livestock and Corporative Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, for establishment of Agriculture Expo-Centre at the UAP. The agreement was signed by Vice Chancellor of UAP, Professor Dr Zahoor Ahmad Swati, and Secretary Agriculture Government of KP Mohammad Hamayun during a ceremony held at the university campus here on Tuesday.
The MoU signing ceremony was also attended by Special Secretary Agriculture Usman Yaqub, Additional Secretary Agriculture Shaukat Yousafzai, Rizwan Ahmad, Director Planning and Development, UAP. The agreement aims to give information to farmers regarding modern technology on the basis of latest research and development of Agriculture sector, through jointly establishment of agriculture expo-centre at the UAP.
The centre would also aim to take benefit from each other experiences and healthy suggestions for development of Agriculture Sector, besides arranging joint agriculture exhibition. With the establishment of the Centre, the facilitation services would be extended to small farmers belonging to far-flung areas of the province.
Under the plan, a high-level accreditation lab would be established along with setting up of the centre, through which farmers would test certified seeds of international standard. The seeds would become export-quality, could generate revenue for the provincial and national kitty, according to MoU. Besides, the establishment of Agriculture Expo-Centre, an Agriculture Museum, Conference Hall and Committee room would be constructed.
Dr Zahoor Swati, while talking media persons during the ceremony said the University is striving hard to promotion quality research and education in the province. He said the farmers and students would equally take benefit with the establishment of proposed Agriculture Expo-Centre with assistance of Department of Agriculture, and Livestock and Corporative, Government of KP.
The Vice Chancellor said the UAP being a prime agriculture institution, catering all needs and providing facilities to students, researchers and faculty members as well. He said the agreement would be helpful to jointly work for development of Agriculture Sector, besides, facilitation to small farmers in the province. He thanked the Additional Chief Secretary Government of KP for his keenness and support, and role for development of Agriculture sector in the province.
