City police claimed to have gunned down seven suspected terrorists in an `encounter' here on Wednesday. Those killed in the encounter were allegedly associated with a banned organisation, they added. According to police sources, Malir police on an intelligence report conducted a targeted operation in Sohrab Goth's Afghan Basti and Machhar Colony.
Police faced resistance in the area and during an encounter, killed seven alleged terrorists, while three terrorists managed to flee from the scene. SSP Malir, Rao Anwar, told media that a door-to-door operation was conducted on a tipoff that some 10 terrorists were present in Afghan Basti and Machhar Colony. He said that the alleged criminals opened indiscriminate firing and lobbed hand grenades on police, but in a retaliatory firing seven armed terrorists were killed. Their bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The SSP said that arms and hand grenades were also recovered from the possession of terrorists killed in the encounter. The terrorists killed in the encounter aged between 25 and 30 years, he added. According to police, at least 500 policemen took part in the operation but none of them sustained injuries.
