Mobilink has upgraded Jinnah Welfare Society's (JWS) Vocational Center by setting up a Stitching and Sewing facility. The facility upgraded with 12 sewing machines was inaugurated by Mobilink's CSR team in a ceremony in JWS, Talagang. The Sewing and Stitching center will be utilised for regular classes of sewing skills to the women of Talagang and surrounding areas. The 6-month long course is aimed at empowering women beneficiaries with skills that they can utilise in earning a living for their family and to teach other women.
Omar Manzur Head of Corporate Communication, Mobilink commenting on the partnership said, "Mobilink has always led with its efforts to provide assistance to marginalized strata of the society. The vocational center at Talagang is part of our corporate social responsibility drive to enable women of underdeveloped areas to gain economic freedom and shows our determination in fulfilling our promise of making a better every day for the communities we operate in."
Mobilink will also contribute in making the project sustainable by providing JWS an opportunity to opt in as a supplier of stitched schoolbags. This in line with Mobilink's project for schoolchildren started in 2010 where schoolbags are stitched from recycled material obtained from flex sheets from outdoor advertising. Mobilink has so far provided more than 40,000 schoolbags to schoolchildren nation-wide. Women members and beneficiaries termed revamping of the Vocational Center as a much needed contribution to the existing facilities at JWS. They will not only be able to acquire skills through this facility but also contribute to the economic cycle by working on sewing projects in the city of Talagang.-PR
