Artists share their dreams and ideas while exploring miniature in traditional as well as contemporary themes in a group show at Clifton Art Gallery, Karachi. The paintings were oozing imaginations and expressions. Our young artists are more open and candid in sharing their inner feelings and thoughts. Their opinions about the world outside and around are mirrored in their paintings.
While going through each painting there is a feeling that they want to prove something to society wrapped in their creativity they presents certain vision of what type of world they want to live in, and which type of world they are living in.
The paintings reveal some pressing issues while some other issues hidden under layers of bright and soft colours waiting to be revealed by the viewers.
Social media is now a key medium of exposure to the outer world. The collection of paintings at the exhibition depicts such exposure and experiences. All the participating artists; Nazia Gull, Sobia Maqsood, Naveed Sadiq, Mudassar Manzoor, Iqra Tariq, Hadia Moiz, Farah Khan, Aakif Suri, Amna Manzoor, Asif Ahmed, Imran Mudassar and Saba Saleem have points to raise and some questions to ask through their artworks.
Our upcoming artists effect an increasingly confident touch in their artworks, and it is a positive sign of thriving art in our society. And this in return creates healthy minds and healthy souls that in future become healthy society. The process must go on and the local galleries should play their vital role in continuing this healthy activity.
The paintings cover current social and political scenario of our country. The keen observation of these artists convert into thought provoking paintings which engage the viewer.
Artists question our social values and particular social behaviours regarding our roles in society with a view to depicting harsh realities surrounding us. It is, therefore, the paintings create a connection to a common person's life.
Various techniques, tools and mediums are used by artists according to their requirements of subject and their interests. Different images are juxtaposed, merged, overlapped and superimposed to form a visual language that conveys their message properly.
The transformation of many different ideas and experiences in a painting gives a mental relief to these artists. Their urge to express themselves bring them to the canvas and through painting they let others know their viewpoint. The paintings also reveal the mindset of our young generation and their perception of the present and future.
The detailed drawings and miniatures serve as a connection between the artist and the viewer. Nowadays the issue of identity is discussed almost at every forum and hence these artists also touch this subject. The influences that characterise one's personality are depicted in many works.
Thus these artists make their point through modern visual vocabulary with a touch of tradition.
