Additional Medical Superintendent (MS), Sir CJ Institute of Psychiatry, Hyderabad Darya Khan Laghari said that the government should focus on Mental Health issues because every fourth person was suffering from psychological disease in the country due to various factors. He said while speaking on the occasion of second annual Shaheed Prof: Dr Aftab Qureshi one-day conference of MK Hospital held on "Health Concerns of Senior Citizens" here at local hotel on Saturday.
Senior citizens should be respected in ways as children because they adopted same habits as children, he said adding if such steps are not taken to care the senior citizens, already suffering from various diseases, they would be patients of psychological problems.
Expressing concerns over the shortage of Psychiatrists, he said that there was one Psychiatrist on the one million people in the country. We have to increase the ratio, if we want to see the people to be healthy mentally to contribute to national growth, he suggested. On the occasion, Provincial Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control, Abdul Majeed Pathan said that the situation of drug addiction was better in the country when compared to other countries where more than 90 per cent were drug addicts. "We should hope for better and also go ahead with this hope rather and expressing deprivation and disappointments", he said.
