Capacity building session held in Korangi

23 Sep, 2014

"Karachi, the city of lights is caught in the vicious cycle of target killings, extortion, religious extremism and terrorism, which has serious implications for the youth of Karachi" this was stated by a student who was part of the first batch of students who participated in the capacity building session held in the Korangi area of Karachi, organised by Individual and Pakistan from 15th to 17th September, 2014.
Similarly, another student who participated in the second batch held from 18th to 20th September, 2014 was of the view that "Individual and is doing an excellent job by creating awareness on the basic human rights guaranteed in the constitution of Pakistan." Pakistan remains a country where the neglect of basic human rights has given rise to a number of different issues.
Human Rights, was the predominant theme of this Capacity building workshops. Korangi just like Lyari has become a den for criminal elements and their activities. The residents of Korangi find it hard to live in an area where the youth is unable to receive proper education and play their role for the uplift of the society.
Individual and Pakistan is research based consulting and advocacy firm that is working on themes such as rule of law, gender equity, right to information, responsible and conflict sensitive journalism for the past few years. Individual and Pakistan has recently initiated a project with the collaboration of Karachi Youth Initiative, titled 'Youth for Peace and Development in Korangi.' The aim of this project is to provide capacity building trainings to 100 youth from Korangi on Human Rights, Youth Activism and social responsibility. These 100 participants (aged: 16-24) will be provided training on three (03) modules ie human rights, youth activism and social responsibility. The participants of the workshop appreciated the efforts of Individual and in conducting this workshop and demanded that such events should be conducted on regular basis.-PR
