KMC seems helpless against encroachers

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) seems helpless against the encroahers, as encroachments are remerging in different areas of the city despite KMC's continued operation against encroachments. Sources said that administration of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) did not seek police help to remove encroachments in different localities of the city due to political influence in the area where anti-encroachment taskforce intended to operate.
KMC has claimed to remove encroachments from Saddar area but on very next day encroachers set-up their stalls. The operation against illegal encroachments is being carried out on court's orders. Sources said that the concerned department had engaged political workers for carrying out operation against encroachments instead of seeking extensive support of law enforcement agencies. "The anti-encroachment taskforce, marred by corruption, usually seeks support of area dominated political party to launch operation against encroachments," sources said, adding that these political activists plunder the stalls of vendors during the operation.
On Tuesday, the anti-encroachment department of KMC with the co-ordination of district municipal administration, police and rangers took action against the establishment of encroachments alongside the boundary wall of Indus Hospital near Korangi Crossing. The anti encroachment squad in its operation removed many hotels, cabins, patharas, push carts and sun shades and later deposited the seized items in the DMC store. Sources said staff members of anti-taskforce were not willing to take part in the operation due to lack of security.
