Arrest of workers: PTI contempt plea dismissed

24 Sep, 2014

The Lahore High Court here on Tuesday dismissed a contempt petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) against detention of its workers in violation of a court order. A PTI leader Zubair Khan Niazi through his counsel pleaded that despite the court orders party workers were being arrested. He sought contempt of court proceedings against the authorities concerned.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Sukhera filed a written reply in the court and denied any illegal arrest of the party workers. He said police did not arrest any political worker on its own but on the direction of authority concerned. He said no worker of the petitioner-party was arrested illegally. The arrests were made in light of detention order issued by DCO under sections of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). The court expressing satisfaction over the reply filed by IGP dismissed the petition.
