The Professors and Lecturers Association of commerce institutions staged a protest demonstration in front of Multan Press Club to press the government for implementation of the 2004 contract policy. The demo was led by Divisional President Muhammad Taufique.
He told media persons that the Punjab government had excluded 118 commerce colleges from the list of Technical and Vocation Training Authority (TEVTA) in 2012 and these colleges were given under the control of higher education department and the government had assured that all the contract employees and teaching staff would be entitled to get relaxation and privileges under the contract policy 2004.
He said that the Punjab Chief Minister had notified the contract policy but the bureaucracy was creating hurdles in the way of swift implementation of the policy.
Speaking on the occasion CPLA Finance Secretary Gulzar Zafar and CPLA Convenor Bilal Farooqi said that the commerce educators had been deprived of their salaries for the last two months.
They demanded of the Punjab CM to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure implementation of the contract policy otherwise the CPLA would boycott educational activities and launch protest drive across the province.
To express solidarity with the educators, PPP's Southern Punjab President Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Information Secretary Shaukat Basra and Khawaja Rizwan Allam also joined the protestors and supported their demands.
