Former Prime Minister and Vice-Chairman Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Saturday that staging sit-ins and protest demonstrations were democratic right of every party and part of a democratic process. Talking to media after attending PPP's ticket holders' meeting in Lahore he said that holding local bodies' election was the responsibility of the provinces.
He criticised the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for what he said its failure to fulfil the commitments made with the masses during the election campaign and its election manifesto. He opined that those parties become popular, which implement their manifestos. He advised the federal government not to interfere in provinces' affairs. Regarding the October 16 bye-election in Multan, he said that only PPP was contesting the election on its symbol, while all other candidates were contesting independently.
