Apropos a letter to the Editor 'Country needs more nuclear power stations' carried by the newspaper yesterday, the writer seems to be a strong advocate of acquisition of nuclear energy. In order to build up his argument, not only has he narrated the present global energy scene in an effective and meaningful manner, he has also expressed his strong disagreement over description of nuclear energy option as an "unpopular course".
The writer, however, has ignored the fact that Pakistan is located in an earthquake-prone zone. As yet there is no way to predict occurrence of an earthquake or a Tsunami generated by it. Japan that employs earthquake-proof building technology more than any other nation could not escape the ensuing disaster after the Tsunami. Hence, the need for a serious debate on country's energy options.
