Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) chief Haji Hafeez Anwar has urged the government to remove ambiguity regarding the purchase of one million cotton bales through Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP). Addressing a press conference, along with Rao Sadaruddin Vice Chairman, Aasim Saeed Sheikh Ex-Vice Chairman and Shehzad Ali Khan, Haji Hafeez Anwar, said that ECC decision has created a confusion that TCP would procure the seed cotton at the rate of Rs 3,000 per maund.
He said that it was not possible for the TCP to procure the un-ginned cotton from farmers directly because seed cotton could not be stored or preserved for a long time. He said, "Binola" become heat-up if the raw cotton is stored for more than prescribed time". He suggested the government should convene a meeting of all stakeholders to set a feasible policy to break the cartel of APTMA and other buyers. He advised the ginners to adopt the wait-and-see attitude to save themselves from the financial losses. He said the government should fix minimum support price of Rs 6000 per maund for ginned cotton to facilitate the growers to ensure the payment of support price to them.
