Sindh Irrigation Department stops water outflow to Indus Delta

The Sindh Irrigation Department has stopped outflow of water downstream the Kotri Barrage in the Indus Delta after about two months as in inflow at the barrage dropped to 17,300 cusecs on Friday. According to WAPDA report about position of the river inflows and outflows, the running water at the Tarbela Dam on he River Indus has come down to 55,700 cusecs against the outflow of 90,000 cusecs. The water flow in the River Kabul at Nowshera was 15,600 cusecs and in the River Chenab 23,000 cusecs.
The Indus River System Authority was releasing 40,000 cusecs downstream the Mangla Dam on the River Jhelum against the inflow of 24,400 cusecs for hydel power generation and irrigation of Kharif crops like cotton, rice, sugarcane, fodder and fruit orchards. The report said that 12.817 MAF water is left in the Mangla Dam and Tarbela Dam (7 MAF and 5.817 MAF, respectively) for sowing, growing and maturing Rabi crops, including wheat, oilseeds, grams, lentils, maize, fodder, vegetables and orchards.
