Al-Khidmat Foundation on Tuesday announced to set up a special disaster cell to tackle any untoward situation may be caused by Nilofar cyclone, which is likely to hit Pakistan's coastal belt in next two days. A meeting of Al-Khidmat Foundation (Karachi Chapter) chaired by Eng Abdul Aziz General Secretary Karachi was held here to review the arrangements of relief activities, in case of any disaster following the Nilofar.
The meeting was informed that Nilofar is likely to hit coastal belt of Pakistan on Friday and a heavy rain is expected in several coastal areas including Thatha, Badin, Balochistan and Karachi. According to Eng Abdul Aziz, previously in 1994 a cyclone like this hit the country resulted in financial losses. "Al-Khidmat has issued a red-alert for the volunteers and asked them to immediately report at Karachi office to plan the strategy for expected cyclone, besides, setting-up a special disaster cell," he added. Manzar Aalam has been given the charge of disaster management cell, while Rizwan Mehmood and Muhammad Tariq will assist him. All necessary arrangements are being assured to start relief activities in case of any disaster, he said.
