The Karachi Port handled 186,233 tonnes of cargo comprising 138,064 tonnes of import cargo and 48,169 tonnes of export cargo including 6,444 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 138,064 tonnes comprised of 51,814 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,194 tonnes of general cargo; 39,140 tonnes of bulk cargo: 17,236 tonnes of coal; 9,063 tonnes of wheat; 9,515 tonnes of DAP; 3,326 tonnes of sunflower seeds and 39,916 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 48,169 tonnes comprised of 30,391 tonnes of containerised cargo; 178 tonnes of general cargo; 6,600 tonnes of marble stone and 11,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,444 containers comprising 3,614 containers import and 2,830 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,345 of 20's and 1,129 of 40's loaded while 11 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 838 of 20's and 419 of 40's loaded containers while 166 of 20's and 494 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were six ships namely AS Carelia, X-Press Euphrates, YM New Jersey, Klima, Chang Hang Run Hai and Thorco Ambition carrying containers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. X-Press Euphrates, Altonia, Athina and Zhe Hai-169 carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively currently at the berths.
There were four ships namely RHL Felicitas, BW Kronborg, Swan and Zhe Hai-169 carrying containers, oil tanker, DAP and steel respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while six ships namely Chang Hang Run Hai, Altonia, Athina, ECE Nur-K, Busan Star and Aurora Island carrying containers, oil tanker, wheat and DAP respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.
There were two vessels viz. Sakaka and Hyundai Busan carrying containers due to arrive on Friday, while four vessels viz. Kota Nifah, Chemtrans Rhine, MT Quetta and Ming Hai carrying containers, oil tankers and soyabean meal respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
