The Karachi Port handled 152,069 tonnes of cargo comprising 119,897 tonnes of import cargo and 32,172 tonnes of export cargo including 6,274 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 119,897 tonnes comprised of 46,997 tonnes of containerised cargo; 12,734 tonnes of general cargo; 36,701 tonnes of bulk cargo: 28,850 tonnes of coal; 7,851 tonnes of soyabean meal and 23,465 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 32,172 tonnes comprised of 23,875 tonnes of containerised cargo; 308 tonnes of general cargo; 6,839 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,712 tonnes of cement; 5,127 tonnes of rice and 1,150 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,274 containers comprising 3,558 containers import and 2,716 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,142 of 20's and 1,079 of 40's loaded while 38 of 20's and 110 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 473 of 20's and 529 of 40's loaded containers while 247 of 20's and 469 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely PAC Aries, Maersk Messina and Dato Success carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. AS Carelia, APL Chicago and VSC Castor carrying containers and coal respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Philadelphia, X-Press Euphrates and Filia Glory carrying containers and coal respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while two ships namely Halil Sahin and Le He carrying oil tanker and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Friday.
There were three vessels viz. COSCO Kobe, Ocean Flower and Dragon Glory carrying containers, DAP and steel respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz. Lissy Schulte, Sakaka, Bon Atlantico and Han Li carrying containers, chemical and project cargo respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
