The Karachi Port handled 191,179 tonnes of cargo comprising 129,825 tonnes of import cargo and 61,554 tonnes of export cargo including 3,574 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 129,825 tonnes comprised of 53,167 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10,796 tonnes of general cargo; 52,518 tonnes of bulk cargo: 39,270 tonnes of coal; 10,715 tonnes of DAP; 2,533 tonnes of soyabean meal and 13,344 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 61,554 tonnes comprised of 41,080 tonnes of containerised cargo; 222 tonnes of general cargo; 16,702 tonnes of bulk cargo: 7,584 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 9,118 tonnes of rice and 3,550 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,574 containers comprising 2,281 containers import and 1,293 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,173 of 20's and 521 of 40's loaded while 16 of 20's and 25 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 462 of 20's and 150 of 40's loaded containers while 257 of 20's and 137 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eleven ships namely Cosco Kobe, Cosco Kawasaki, Sakaka, Bon Atlantico, AS Ophelia, Cape Brasilia, Sea Merchant, Ikan Salmon, Minghai, Han Li and Dragon Glory carrying containers, oil tankers, coal, cement, bulk cargo and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. MOL Direction, Hanjin Indigo, Cape Brasilia, MT Quetta and Somerset carrying containers, oil tankers and cement respectively currently at the berths.
There was one ship namely Hanjin Indigo carrying containers sailed out to sea on Monday, while three ships namely MOL Direction, MT Quetta and VSC Castor carrying containers, oil tanker and coal respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday. There was one vessel viz. Pona carrying containers due to arrive on Monday, while four vessels viz. OOCL Chicago, Sima Prestige, Kota Karim and Golden Gion carrying containers and oil tanker are due to arrive on Tuesday.
