Ex-MD PTDC's name on ECL: IHC issues notice to Secretary Interior

03 Dec, 2014

The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday issued notices to Secretary Ministry of Interior in a petition against putting the name of former managing director (MD) of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Mir Shah Jahan Khetran on Exit Control List (ECL).
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating Khetran for financial mismanagement in the Authority during his tenure. A single-member bench headed by Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi heard the petition filed by Khetran seeking the removal of his name from the ECL.
During the course of proceeding, the court issued notice to the secretary interior and directed him to submit reply within a week. The petitioner told the court that the interior ministry had placed his name on ECL despite the fact that court had already ordered to remove his name from ECL in April this year, upon which the bench said that the petitioner should have filed a contempt of court petition instead of fresh petition.
Later, the court adjourned the matter till next week. Khetran was removed from MD PTDC slot on December 01, 2013 after which NAB started investigation against him for alleged involvement in financial mismanagement, misuse of funds, and leasing out of PTDC property. Khetran was granted a pre-arrest bail against surety bonds of 0.5million rupees by a division bench of IHC in May this year.
