Police on Saturday claimed to have impounded a vehicle at Chakri Interchange carrying a huge cache of arms and ammunition being smuggled to different parts of the Rawalpindi city, besides arresting one smuggler, police officials said. They also said that three other smugglers including the owner of the weapons identified as Sajjad managed to escape from the scene.
The detainee was identified as Nawaz. Police officials said that the seized arms and ammunition included 20 riffles of different bores, 12 pistols of 30 bore and 9mm and 2000 bullets. Police officials said that acting on a tipoff the police strengthened road checking during which the police spotted two suspicious vehicles coming from Chakri Interchange and signalled them to stop.
Police said that the pilot car with three people on board managed to escape, while police captured the second car (KB-446). Upon conducting search, police seized huge cache of weapons from the car and arrested the driver. Police said that a case was registered against the accused. Police informed that the arms and ammunition was brought from Peshawar and were due to smuggle to different parts of Punjab province.
