NA-122 election: Commission on inspection of polling bags to meet Monday

13 Dec, 2014

A local commission, tasked to inspect polling bags of NA-122 election constituency of Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, would hold its maiden meeting on Monday at Nadir Hall of District Co-ordination Officer's (DCO) office. The commission comprising retired sessions judge Ghulam Hussain Awan has issued notices to Speaker NA Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan to make their representation at the meeting.
The returning officer of the constituency and officials of election commission also asked to attend the meeting. An election tribunal had ordered inspection of the polling bags on application of Imran Khan, runner-up candidate from NA-122. He alleged that Ayaz Sadiq, the returned candidate, committed rigging on the day of polling. Akhtar Rasool, runner-up candidate of PML-N from PP-148, Lahore, has also filed an application to election tribunal to become a necessary party in inspection process of the constituency's record.
The applicant said the tribunal had summoned Mian Aslam Iqbal, returned candidate of PTI, on an application for inspection of the record. However, he said, the tribunal did not issue him a notice.
