The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) approved on Saturday the electoral symbol pencil for Maryam Nawaz from NA-125 constituency.
Maryam will be contesting from Lahore's NA-125 as an independent candidate, for which the ECP has allotted her pencil symbol, local media reported. NA-125, which was previously NA- 120, is the same constituency from which Maryam’s father and her mother Kulsoom Nawaz won in the last elections.
On the other hand, Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) has fielded Maryam for Lahore's NA-127 constituency. Maryam will be contesting with the electoral symbol lion.
This is the first time that the PM's daughter will be contesting the general elections. Maryam, who is currently in London to visit her critically ill mother, has been accused of corruption by the National Accountability Bureau.
The general elections are slated for July 25. The political parties have official started their election campaign.
