Beating the first day opening collections of ‘Avengers’ and Salman Khan's ‘Race 3’, Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ has already set new records just a day after its release and has received an incredible response from the public as well as from B-Town.
The much anticipated movie registered good occupancy in its morning shows across India and showed a great jump in the evening and night shows, Indian media reported. It went on to collect Rs 34.75 crore on its first day. The film has given a tremendous break to Ranbir’s career after his many failures at the box office.
Ranbir’s last film ‘Jagga Jasoos’ failed to make an impact on the box office, however, with ‘Sanju’ he has made a comeback on the box office. The film has also beaten first day records of Ranbir’s previous movies such as Barfi, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Tamasha.
Indian film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Non-holiday, non-festival release [and] yet Sanju packs a phenomenal total on day 1. [The film] emerges as the biggest opener of 2018 [so far]. Also, [this film is] Ranbir's highest opener to date. ‘Sanju’ expected to cross Rs. 100 crore in three days, as per trends”.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan's ‘Race 3’, which headlined the list of highest opening day grosser till last Friday, has now been replaced by Ranbir’s ‘Sanju’. ‘Race 3’ is on the second spot on the list, followed by ‘Baaghi 2’, ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Veere Di Wedding’.
