Red colored phones might just be the newest trend since many smartphone manufacturers are releasing their red variants. OnePlus has taken the same route and has announced a new color variant of its latest OnePlus 6.
Pete Lau, the CEO of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, announced Sunday night about the new red edition of OnePlus 6 that was originally launched in May. The red color, launching next week, will be an addition to its Black and Silk White models.
He said that since OnePlus 5T Lava Red color was a success, they decided to launch one for the OnePlus 6 too. “After evaluating hundreds of colors, one color stood out among the rest. That color is now what we proudly call the OnePlus 6 Red.”

Lau explained that for them, the color red displays enthusiasm and personality, along with inner confidence and courage. “There is a kind of power in red, which the OnePlus logo has always tried to articulate. We hope you feel similarly empowered when you hold the OnePlus 6 Red this summer,” he wrote.
Lau admitted that they have restrained from adopting new colors, unlike other smartphone brands, since it is too assertive, often creating a visual burden for users. “We didn’t want the shade of red to be overly bright, which can feel visually burdensome. The color should be passionate but with a level of visual restraint. It should have a clear quality like amber, but also have an enduring appeal that will last for years to come.”
The phone has a shimmery, glossy finish with silver accents, as The Verge describes. The phone will be available globally in 8GB RAM and 128GB storage costing $579, the same as its other variants.
Lau wrote, “We hope the OnePlus 6 Red will give you a strong, positive impression with a lasting sense of craftsmanship and quality. Red Empowers You!”
