Partly Facetious: Why didn't they say anything during the APC?

01 Jan, 2015

"I was rather disturbed when I heard the news."
"Yes the Malaysian airliner has been found and hope of possible survivors has vanished."
"Agreed but I wasn't referring to that accident."
"Oh I get it, you are referring to the two well known PPP lawyers Raza Rabbani's and Aitzaz Ahsan's campaign to undermine the agreement during an All-Party Conference on setting up special courts under the military."
"Why didn't they say anything during the APC?"
"Well there they were one of many but outside the APC they are getting greater publicity."
"Don't be facetious. Tell me as the two men owe their current senatorship to former President Zardari why isn't Zardari sahib giving them a shut up call?"
"It's difficult to control lawyers turned politicians - I gather Hamid Khan of the PTI has also expressed his reservations on military courts."
"Lawyers like to argue, why didn't these gentlemen argue during the APC?"
"Good lawyers like to argue, in Pakistan post reinstatement of former Chief Justice Iftekhar Chaudhary lawyers beat up judges of the lower courts and get away with it, there have been cases of lawyers murdering their household staff and when the police comes to arrest them they beat up the police as well..."
"That's the price of effective organisation - I mean lawyers misbehaviour is now commonplace and then there is the organisational capacity of all those who should be taxed and who organise protests and ensure that attempts to tax their income fail."
"For the record I would like to say that Aitezaz Ahsan has rendered long term service to his party and only took one rupee from the then Prime Minister Gilani sahib against the contempt notice..."
"He lost the case and he got a senatorship out of it."
"Oh shush, anyway the reason why I am disturbed is that I hear those who awarded former President Zardari a Phd are now contemplating taking it away."
"You are being facetious."
"No he is having problems keeping long term loyalists within the party, his son is refusing to toe the line and need I add Altaf bhai is not happy either."
"Bilawal is young but he has learned one lesson from his dad and that is to cite illness as a means for not travelling."
"His father employed that excuse for delaying court cases against him."
"Agreed but Zardari sahib would be well advised to acknowledge that a gift once given, or an agreement, cannot be withdrawn. Look at the ridiculous PML-N reaction against sale of lap tops."
"Hush, Zardari sahib would say an agreement is not hadith and Nawaz Sharif may take cases of sale of laptops to the military courts."
"I give up."
