Children's rights & protection: Federal Ombudsman forms national committee

Federal Ombudsman Salman Faruqui on Wednesday constituted a 'National Committee on Children' with the objectives to formulate and co-ordinate policies on children rights and their protection. The 'National Committee on Children' is constituted with a specific object to formulate and coordinate policies on child rights and child protection with the consent of Federal and Provincial Ombudsmen.
Keeping in view the importance of education and health facilities, the 'National Committee on Children' would recommend policies on better education, healthcare and environment for proper growth of children. The committee shall also recommend measures for ensuring implementation of policy decisions, guidelines/instructions to promote and protect rights of the children.
The committee would ensure that laws should be formulated for protection of children in each province. Apart from this, the 'National Committee on Children' would work for raising awareness about children rights among general masses through media. The committee comprises former Federal Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Senator S M Zafar, Raheela Hameed Durrani from Quetta, Faryal Gohar from Lahore, Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Chairperson SZABIST, Dr Farzana Bari, Director Center of Excellence in Gender Studies Quaid-e-Azam University, Professor Taqdees Gillani Chairperson Kashmir Cultural Academy, Dr Tufail Muhammad Children (Paeds) Specialist, Samar Minallah Khan, Anthropologist/Documentarian, Begum Jan Doctor and the founder of the Tribal Women Welfare Association and others.
