The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training on Friday expressed serious reservations over purchase of land at inflated rates for the Fata University to be established in Kohat and urged for immediate inquiry into the matter.
The committee met with Abdul Nabi Bangash in the chair and was informed that 266 kanals of land was purchased at a price of Rs 133 million for Fata University in Kohat. The land was purchased at Rs 578,000 per kanal on which the committee expressed serious reservations saying the land was purchased at inflated price. The Committee was of the view that land price in Kohat is less, however some blue-eyed persons were given undue profit and the land was purchased at higher price.
Chairman of the Committee said the inquiry should be conducted into the matter, adding that Safron had by-passed the Senate Standing committee in that regard, besides parliamentarians from Fata were also kept unaware of the land issue. He further said Fata University was being heard since long; however the real building of the university was yet awaited due to one reason or the other.
He further said that for the University about 2,000 kanals land would be needed; however for Fata University allocation of only 266 kanals is no more than a joke. The committee decided to meet on January 6 where parliamentarians from Fata, Chief Secretary Fata Secretariat, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training and Safron should also be invited.
