As many as four dacoits along with five police officers were killed in an operation at Mehmoodabad area of Mirpurkhas on Saturday. According to Police, five police officers including two SHOs were killed in the shootout whereas the in-charge of A-Section Police Station Hassan Ali is amongst the wounded. Four dacoits including Chotu Narejo and Qurban Narejo were gunned down in the operation, according to the Law Enforcement Agencies.
Large numbers of weapons were recovered from the slain dacoits. It is said that the slain dacoits were involved in kidnapping and target killing offences in Sindh. The area was cleared after the operation was complete. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hyderabad, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hyderabad and several police officers of four police stations took part in the operation. The funeral prayers for martyred police officials, who were killed in encounter with notorious gangsters in Mirpurkhas last night, was offered here at police lines. Those whose funeral prayers were offered include Hassan Abidi SHO Latifabad and three policemen. The funeral prayers of another SHO of Market Wahid Bux Jamali was offered at his village in Matiari district.
Talking with media after burial, IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali said there were women and children with dacoits who were made shield by dacoits otherwise police had not sustained such a loss of lives of officers and cops. He said all four dacoits namely Chhuto Narejo, Wahab Narejo, Jan Muhammad Narejo and Qurban Narejo belonged to Khairpur district were killed and were wanted in scores of crimes across Sindh and had head money of lakhs of rupees on them. He said the government had announced Quaid-e-Azam Award for martyred officials, compensation of Rs 10 millions for families, and higher govt jobs for their children had been recommended.
