The Karachi Port handled 83,295 tonnes of cargo comprising 58,646 tonnes of import cargo and 24,649 tonnes of export cargo including 1,967 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 58,646 tonnes comprised of 6,609 tonnes of containerised cargo; 14,650 tonnes of general cargo; 8,587 tonnes of bulk cargo: 6,200 tonnes of coal; 2,387 tonnes of soda ash and 28,800 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 24,649 tonnes comprised of 15,451 tonnes of containerised cargo; 279 tonnes of general cargo; 6,256 tonnes of bulk cargo: 676 tonnes of cement, 5,580 tonnes of steel and 2,663 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 1,967 containers comprising of 858 containers import and 1,109 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 188 of 20's and 127 of 40's loaded while 134 of 20's and 141 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 456 of 20's and 181 of 40's loaded containers while 47 of 20's and 122 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely MOL Distinction, Hanjin Indigo and Spruce-2 carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. ACX Crystal, Sima Prestige, Silver Hannah, SFL Hudson, GM Phoenix, Le Li and Kiran Istanbul carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There was one ship namely ACX Crystal carrying containers sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while four ships namely Sima Prestige, Western Eyde, GM Phoenix and Kiran Istanbul carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo are expected to sail on Wednesday.
There were five vessels viz. Commodore, OOCL Chicago, Kota Kamil, Al-Mahboobah and Adfines Sun carrying containers and chemical respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while five vessels viz. PAC Aries, Uni Premier, Ever Result, Mathawee Naree and Mikawa carrying containers, DAP and steel respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
