A US drone strike Thursday killed seven militants in North Waziristan, a military official said. The unmanned aircraft targeted a compound in Shawal forest in the North Waziristan tribal region on the Afghan border, the official said. Al Qaeda fighters have been using the mountainous Shawal forest for years as a base to attack targets in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The drone fired two missiles at a compound being used by militants linked with al-Qaeda, the official said.
The identity of dead militants was not known.
It would be the third drone strike in Pakistan in 2015. The military's campaign against Islamist militants was intensified after Taliban attackers killed 136 children at an army-run school in Peshawar last month.
