19 Jan, 2015

Contractors from the volatile Khyber Agency have urged the government to end the new system of awarding contracts of developmental schemes in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
Addressing a press conference at press club here on Sunday, President Contractors Association Khyber Agency Iqbal Afridi warned that the association would protest if the decision was enforced by the authorities.
The government has introduced a new system for awarding contract in Fata, which he termed, is not in the best interest of the contractors in the tribal region.
He further said that the contracts of all schemes was being awarded to a single company through a single tender under the new system due to which smaller contractors have been deprived to take part in tendering process.
He said the uplift project would face delay and suspension due to implementation of the new system. He questioned that how it was possible for a single contractor to complete more than 20 schemes in the Fata.
Afridi asked the government to immediately end the new system to create a competitive environment in tending and bidding process.
He was flanked by the association Vice-president Badshah Khan, Haji Umar Akbar, Hazrat Khan and others.
