Petrol crisis to be overcome in few days: PML-N leader

20 Jan, 2015

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken serious notice of shortage of petrol in different parts of the country while the petrol crisis will be overcome within few days. PML-N leader Mohammad Pervaiz Malik said here on Monday the Prime Minister has already held an enquiry on this issue and suspended four officials, which reflects that the PM is fully concerned on this issue and wants to resolve the problem of petrol shortage.
He said the government is working to resolve shortage of petrol in the country. "We will overcome the energy crisis by starting new energy projects. National economy has become stable due to prudent policies of the government," he said. He said stringent measures are being taken to avoid such situation in future while provision of complete petrol supply would be ensured within next few days.
On the other hand, Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) VP Sajid Ghulam said that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has repeatedly failed to maintain supply chain of the fossil fuel resulting in crisis, the credit of ongoing petrol crisis also goes to the PSO among others. Private sector should be allowed to import petroleum products as well as LNG as PSO has no experience in the import of gas and red-tapeism will delay arrival of LNG which will compromise growth, said Sajid Ghulam. He said that PSO lacks ability to get receivables or discontinue supply to defaulting entities which has landed it into circular debt beyond government's capacity to resolve it. Sajid Ghulam said that petroleum ministry has not ratified the wrongdoing of former regime, rather preferred to ignore the same which is disappointing.
