Lakhvi's detention extended for another 30 days

20 Jan, 2015

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday was informed that the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has extended detention of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the main accused of 2008 Mumbai terrorists attack, for another 30 days. A singe-member bench headed by Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi resumed hearing of a petition filed by Lakhvi through his counsel Advocate Rizwan Abbasi against his detention under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
During the course of proceeding, Advocate Rizwan Abbasi said that previous detention orders of his client expired on January 18. However, the administration extended the detention of Lakhvi for another 30 days. Abbasi alleged that the government extended the detention of Lakhvi under the 16 MPO illegally. He was of the view that government's extension order would be challenged through another application. Later, the court adjourned the case till January 26.
