The Council for Islamic Ideology on Wednesday ruled that a man divorcing his wife thrice on one occasion or at one time is non-Islamic, adding that this should be made an offense punishable by law. The council's chairman, Maulana Sherani, said that a man can pronounce one divorce at a time as per the method prescribed by the Shariah.
According to the Islamic family law, a man has to divorce the spouse three times before the divorce legally comes into effect. Maulana Sherani further recommended formation of rules and regulations to eliminate sectarianism a after thorough investigation of the issue. The CII also rejected the Bill to physically punish children. Ruling on women's eligibility to be a judge, Maulana Sherani said that a woman has to be at least 40-year-old to become a judge and that too if she maintains a full 'Islamic veil'.
