The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet is likely to approve drug pricing policy today (Friday). Sources told Business Recorder that ECC meeting convened by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is likely to take up a four-point agenda. However, as usual, there is a possibility that some proposals may be circulated among the members of the ECC during the meeting for consideration and approval.
The ECC would also take up rationalisation of duty on pure terephthalic acid and approval for re-lending the buyer-credit loan to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Council (PAEC) as per actual terms and conditions available to the government of Pakistan. Sources said that ECC is also likely to take up a proposal of Ministry National Food Security and Research for export of surplus wheat. An official added that the provincial governments, particularly of Sindh, had approved federal government''s plan to allow export of surplus stock else there would be either no or very little space for storage of upcoming crop. The proposal seeks the export of 3 million tons of wheat at a rebate of $50 per ton which involves a Rs 15 billion subsidy.
